When I would arrive at work or start my day I take few minutes to check my schedule for the day to make any needed changes to my schedule for the day. I would schedule my patience for a 50 min to a 1-hr. session with 30 minutes after each session to complete my documentation-assessment and DX, write needed reports, complete TX plans and complete my progress note. In addition for me to take a small break to connect with co-workers, Physicians, make needed changes and/or make phone calls, review or send e-mails. Make sure to take a break for lunch or to regroup.

During my session I focus on my client and their needs-they know I am present not distracted. I often will take small notes-if needed.

If possible set aside specific time for paperwork that isn’t urgent. Make sure that your paperwork is organized because organization plays a major role in effective time management.

Always check your responsibility every day and organized all they need.

First, plan your day and manage all unexpected interruptions. If necessary, prioritize your goals and document your progress in real-time. This will improve your time skills and overall satisfaction.

Documentation is our best chance to defend our care and should be recorded with the assumption that it will wind up on a big poster board in front of a jury or on the front page of our local paper. Also, it is our chance to take credit for the good work we do. If we don't have time to contemporaneous document most of the shift most shifts, we need to consider changing our circumstances. Continuing to work in circumstances that are dangerous for patients, -- including where the danger is the result of insufficient opportunity to document -- except during crises, is a moral hazard and beneath what our patients and society expect.
